Esse video é uma iniciativa Popular que visa o recolhimento de assinaturas em apoio ao Centro Cultural Indigena da Aldeia Maracanã, no Antigo Museu do Indio, à Rua Mata Machado 126 – Maracanã – RJ . O motivo é: o Governo do Estado não reconhecer a posse do território, local sagrado dos povos indígenas. O Governo do RJ tem como intenção nefasta em demolir o edifício histórico. O antigo casarão reconhecido UNESCO encontra-se em total abandono pelo Governo Federal. Notícias que vêm sendo vinculadas na imprensa o Governo do Estado está em negociação com a União para a utilização desse espaço para um atalho ao estádio. SERÁ QUE ISTO É JUSTO?!!! Neste local, indígenas de várias etnias vêm difundindo sua cultura há seis anos e em escolas particulares e públicas, exercendo direito garantido pela lei. With this video we are collecting signatures in support of the preservation of Aldeia Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The residents here represent various indigenous ethnicities from across the country, maintaining this sacred space as a living Indigenous Museum where we share our songs, rituals, stories, cuisine and other cultural practices with an open door policy — all are welcome to come visit us and learn more about our diverse cultures. Despite our legal entitlement to the space granted to us as an indigenous patrimony, the government is seeking to undo the existing legal protections, paving the way for the destruction of Aldeia Maracanã for World Cup related commercial development. The historic building is recognized by UNESCO but has been abandoned and allowed to fall into disrepair in order to legitimize its demolition. We are asking the government to retrofit the historic building instead, so that we may continue our important work in this space and welcome the world to Rio in 2014 and 2016 when the World Cup and Olympics will take place in the adjacent Maracanã stadium. Indigenous peoples from across Brazil are travelling to Rio to join in our struggle which is now reaching a climax with our potential eviction imminent — please support our struggle and sign our online petition:
